Importance of Rabies Vaccinations PDF Print E-mail

I wanted to post today about a very important issue, rabies and rabies vaccinations.  Youwould be amazed by the number of animals in Bedford County that have never had a rabies vaccination or are overdue for their vaccination.  Bedford County Health Department hosts rabies clinics across the county every spring.  Cost is $7 per animal which is a discount over what veterinarians currently charge.  Call our office (931-685-1130) to find locations and times for your area.  Below are just a few more things about this issue:

  • Rutherford County typically has the highest confirmed rabies case in Tennessee.  I think that we will see a rise in Bedford County as a result.
  • Tennessee state law requires all dogs and cats be vaccinated for rabies.  In Bedford County we require all dogs and cats over 3 months of age be vaccinated.
  • Vaccinations must be given by a licensed veterinarian.  A certificate of vaccination and tag should be issued.  The tag must be worn by the animal.  This can also increase your chances of your pet being returned if lost.
  • When my officer and I are checking for current rabies vaccinations, we need to see the certificate, not just the tag, to ensure that the pet is current.

Hope this helps some.  Let me know if there is anything in the future that you would like discussed.

Cheryl, you are correct. The clinics will be held on April 19th and 26th. They are held at about 15 locations across the county. We invite you to call our office and we will tell you the loaction nearest you and the time. This is really great if you have numerous animals as the savings can really add up!

Michael,

I saw a flyer that there is going to be a rabies clinic on April 19th. Is that correct? The flyer also had locations listed. Can you provide additional info?
